Norse Gods & Your Week: Thursday

Wondering why we call it Thursday?

I’ve got two and a half words for you:

THOR’S DAY

Unlike Loki’s Day, which is a bit of a stretch from a scholarly perspective, Thor’s Day really is a thing.

The fifth day of the week is even named after the God of Thunder in German, where it’s called Donnerstag (Donner is German for thunder).

In the romance languages, Thursday is named after Jupiter… who is also Zeus… who is also the god of the sky. And thunder.

Yup, that chest could compete with Chris Hemsworth

So there you have it. Thursday = Thor’s Day.

If you want to use this as an excuse to get hammered, well, I won’t judge.
