Why do we call it Monday, anyway?
Sunday is named after the sun, and Monday is named after the moon. But the Romans called Monday Lunae, and most romance languages still call Monday some variation on Luna, the Roman name for the goddess of the moon.
So why the hell do we call it Monday?
Thanks to this guy right here:
In Norse mythology, Máni is the god of the moon. Sol, his sister, is the goddess of the sun. This is the opposite of the Greek and Roman pantheon, where the sun is male and the moon is female.
Also, both Mani and Sol are chased across the heavens by two great wolves.
And you thought your Monday was rough?
